This Karaja runner carries the classic Karaja signature: a chain of hooked octagonal medallions, flanked by latch-hook motifs and rosettes for protection and balance.

The deep madder red field contrasts with indigo and ivory details, while abrash (natural shifts in dye lots) adds movement across the length of the rug. Karaja runners were woven for narrow corridors and passageways, their motifs passed down through generations of tribal weavers.

Karaja rugs are woven in the village of Karaja, near Heriz in northwestern Iran. Closely related to the bold Heriz tradition, they feature distinctive medallions — often a large central diamond flanked by smaller hooked motifs — set against strong geometric fields. Known for their durability and clear designs, Karaja rugs carry the mountain character of the region while showing the unique hand of a smaller weaving community.

This rug has been professionally cleaned; age-related wear and natural inconsistencies are inherent in these unique, handcrafted vintage rugs.

Please allow 2-3 business days for dispatch of items.

Keep in mind, these timelines can sometimes shift due to factors beyond my control.

All rugs are professionally cleaned by my suppliers before they are sent to me. They go through another round of light cleaning before I ship them out to you.

I highly recommend getting a rug pad to lengthen your rug's life. To maintain your rug, clean it using a vacuum without a beater bar on a weekly basis:

  • Vacuum the rug on top, then flip it over and vacuum the underside to loosen the dirt and push it toward the floor.

  • Do not use a steam cleaner or harsh chemicals as both can damage the wool fibres in the rug.

  • In case of spills, address them immediately and do not let the stains set. Spot clean the stain with warm water, vinegar, and a few drops of clear dish soap. Be sure to blot and never rub, as that can damage the fibres and make the stain penetrate even deeper.

I understand that purchasing a rug can be a big commitment, and I want you to be able to shop with confidence.

That’s why I accept returns within 3 days after you received the rug if you’re not completely satisfied with your choice. Knowing you can return the rug if needed might make the buying decision easier.

Please note that you’ll be responsible for covering return shipping costs. I encourage you to ask any questions and carefully consider the measurements before making your final selection. Your satisfaction is my priority 🖤
